I had the pleasure of watching Megan Hilty's performance as Galinda in WICKED when the cast of One Tree Hill went to see the show together during one of our trips to New York for press. I was the only one who'd seen the show before, and only had seen it in San Francisco during previews when Kristin Chenoweth had sprained her neck and wore a rhinestone-studded neck brace throughout the show-- Hilarious.
I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about someone filling Chenoweth's sparkly shoes after her run in New York... oh me of little faith. Megan Hilty brought Galinda to life in a bright new way, while maintaining all the depth and effervescence needed to command the stage in that role (not to mention a killer set of pipes!). Best part of the story is that she swept into the part at the last minute when she was cast while riding her overnight bus back to Pittsburg following her audition. The more I've been researching her, the more impressed I am to find out that even though many would consider her and "overnight success" Megan actually worked really hard to get where she is. She took the gifts she was given and focused on developing her skills to be prepared for such a star-making moment as the one she had 7 years ago, standing in that WICKED audition room with Stephen Schwartz. Read more about Megan's story HERE and read about her later experience with Broadway show 9 to 5 co-starring Allison Janney HERE!
More recently I've caught Ms. Hilty on NBC's SMASH with Katharine McPhee as Ivy Lynn, one of the dueling "Marilyns" and you can watch her performances HERE on NBC.com.
