I had the pleasure of watching Megan Hilty's performance as Galinda in WICKED when the cast of One Tree Hill went to see the show together during one of our trips to New York for press.  I was the only one who'd seen the show before, and only had seen it in San Francisco during previews when Kristin Chenoweth had sprained her neck and wore a rhinestone-studded neck brace throughout the show-- Hilarious.

I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about someone filling Chenoweth's sparkly shoes after her run in New York... oh me of little faith.  Megan Hilty brought Galinda to life in a bright new way, while maintaining all the depth and effervescence needed to command the stage in that role (not to mention a killer set of pipes!).  Best part of the story is that she swept into the part at the last minute when she was cast while riding her overnight bus back to Pittsburg following her audition.  The more I've been researching her, the more impressed I am to find out that even though many would consider her and "overnight success" Megan actually worked really hard to get where she is.  She took the gifts she was given and focused on developing her skills to be prepared for such a star-making moment as the one she had 7 years ago, standing in that WICKED audition room with Stephen Schwartz.  Read more about Megan's story HERE and read about her later experience with Broadway show 9 to 5 co-starring Allison Janney HERE!

More recently I've caught Ms. Hilty on NBC's SMASH with Katharine McPhee as Ivy Lynn, one of the dueling "Marilyns" and you can watch her performances HERE on

  1. That was a very fun 20 questions. My husband does coffee in the morning and tea at night too. I LOVE Dr. Dog! I learned a lot, as I hadn't any knowledge of who she was. (Sorry!! I really don't know much of people in any entertainment industry). I haven't been to a Broadway show other than one time to see Riverdance in 2001. I am really lame for being someone who lives only 20 minutes from NYC. I never heard of so many of these plays. I would love to see Wicked or Mary Poppins one day though (or they not around anymore?).

    1. Wicked and Mary Poppins are still very much alive!!!!! They are two of the top grossing shows on Broadway. I've seen both, I prefer Wicked, but Mary Poppins is amazing as well!

  2. Hey joy !!this 20 questions was very interesting :) i love to know more about people you know or you love and that are not necesseraly involve in the oth cast :) thanks for sharing this with us can't wait to see another 20 questions next week

  5. These 20 questions are interesting! :)

  6. Joy, you know the coolest Broadway babies. Laura Osnes and Megan Hilty!?! Love them both.

  7. I am FLOORED that you know Megan Hilty! She was a close 2nd for my favorite Galinda after Kendra. Love it when some of my favorite artists intersect. Any chance you can do a 20 Questions with Julia Murney or Stephanie J. Block?

  8. Hey Joy

At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like this 20q or not. Once I had read all your background info on her, I actually found her vey interesting. I will definitely have to check out some of her work online.

  10. Hi Joy!! You inspire me to write a blog entry everyday. I may not have thousand readers just like you but at least, I get to practice my writing skills, vent out what I feel and think and document the experiences I have in my life. Thank you. If one day, I will get to meet you in person, I'll be one of the happiest people in the world. I love you to bits and pieces.

  11. I've always wanted to see a show on Broadway. Someday, hopefully! :)

  12. Yay! I love Her Marylin on Smash!!! So cool you guys know each other

  13. Hey, Joy!
I just wonder if we can expect some random posts too? I mean I'm really grateful that you spend some time to write here and connect with us fans, but at the same time I miss the random posts where you just write down your thoughts or sayings etc.

So I'm hoping that we'll get more blog posts that kinda are like those under 'Deep Thoughts' and 'Close Your Legs'.

  14. Omg loved this 20 questions! I saw her in "9 to 5" and she's just amazing! Love her on Smash too!
